Bonnie Barnett Obituary

Irene Bonnie Barnett, age 81, Erwin, TN passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was born in Buladean, North Carolina and was a life-long resident of Erwin, TN. She was a daughter of the late Dave Hill, Jr and Hassie Tyler Hill.

She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Erwin, TN. She was a member of the Gold Wings Riders Association Chapter C and a member of the Erwin Senior Citizens Center where she volunteered many hours of her time. She was a talented seamstress and a licensed Cosmetologist. She was a wonderful cook and loved working in her garden. The true love and devotion of her life was to her husband and children/grandchildren. She believed in the Lord and was a true example to putting Christ first in her life. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten by all who were privileged to know and love her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two daughters, Teresa Ann Congdon and husband Warren Douglas Congdon, Jr. of Johnson City, TN; Fanny Lynne Williams and husband Hiram Lee Williams, Jr. of Unicoi TN; one son, Samuel David Barnett and wife DeAnna Pickel Barnett of Johnson City, TN. Six grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Pleasant and husband Jordan Scott Pleasant of Johnson City, TN; Allen Chase Williams and fiancée Cheyenne Paige Delffs of Erwin, TN; Sydney Brooke Marsh and husband Joshua Lee Marsh of Gray, TN; Garrett, Andrew, and Madison Barnett all of Johnson City, TN. Great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Grant Pleasant of Johnson City, TN. Four sisters, Bessie Taylor and husband Kenneth of Jonesborough, TN; Gail Hoilman of Bakersville, NC; Carolyn Hill of Bakersville, NC; and Margret Givens of Roan Mountain, NC; Three brothers, Ralph Hill and wife Darlene of Buladean, NC, Roy Hill and wife Cynthia of Buladean, NC, and Ray Hill and wife Donna of Unicoi, TN. Many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roy E. Barnett; Five sisters, Alice Hammett, Georgia Sheets, Edna Sheets, Margarie Hill, and Dessie Hill; Four sisters-in-law, Ruth Callahan, Beatrice Glover, Clara Lee Smith, and Dorothy Barnett. Seven brothers-in-law, Ted Barnett, Doc Callahan, Sammy Smith, Darrell Hammett, Bob Sheets, JC Sheets, and Kenneth Givens.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5:00 pm until the hour of service at Calvary Baptist Church, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, TN. The Reverend David Crutchfield will officiate the 7:00 pm funeral. Music will be provided by Gary Amos and the Strings of Calvary Baptist Church. Serving as active pallbearers will be family and friends. The committal service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in the Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 S. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Roselawn Memory Gardens by 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
