Billy Shelley

Billy Shelley, age 90, of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence while he was surrounded by his loving family. He is a son of the late Kelcy Joel Shelley and Pansey Peterson Shelley. Billy lived most of his life in Erwin.

He was a devoted member of the First Church of the Brethren which he helped build. Billy was a skilled Welder and Master Carpenter. He helped build all his children’s homes. Billy was known as a jack of all trades; he could do anything.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and brother. Billy loved his family dearly. He always had a big smile for everyone. Billy enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially going on trips to the beach.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sonya Hilemon and one sister, Shirley Barnett.

He leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, his wife of seventy-four years, Charlotte Bailey Shelley; three children: Kathy Hilemon (Ron) of Burnsville, Gary Shelley (Susie), and Chris Shelley (Pam), all of Erwin; one sister, Doris Murphy of Erwin; four grandchildren: Jared Shelley, Aaron Shelley, Travis Shelley, and Amy McKinney; eight great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in the funeral home chapel. Billy’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Griffith officiating. Entombment will follow in the Evergreen Mausoleum. Family will serve as pallbearers.
