Billy H. Hensley, age 77, of Jonesborough, formerly of Erwin, went to his heavenly home on Monday, February 19, 2024. He is a son of the late William “Bill” Floyd Hensley and Atlas Edwards Hensley. Billy lived most of his life in Erwin before moving to Jonesborough in 1990.
He was a United States Navy Veteran who served his country honorably. Billy was a Platoon Leader while serving in the Navy. He retired from CSX Transportation where he was employed as a Pipefitter for eighteen years. After he retired from the railroad, he was the owner and operator of Old Town Trucking. Billy was of the Baptist Faith.
Billy graduated from the Science Hill Adult Vocational Center receiving certification in air conditioning and refrigeration. He also received his CDL endorsement through the Transport Training Group.
Billy enjoyed trout fishing and camping. He loved collecting military mess kits from all over the world.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by three brothers: Gary, Darrell, and Tim Hensley.
Billy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-eight years, Vinda Sams Hensley; one son, William Keith Hensley and wife, Lora; one brother, Russell Hensley and wife, Pat; niece, Erica Tetrick.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Stan and Sharon Rainwater, special person, Cindy Tyree Hensley, the doctor's and nurses who took such great care of Billy.
Billy's graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:55 p.m. on Thursday.
