Beverly Kay (Fender) Miller

Beverly Kay Fender Miller, age 71, of Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a daughter of the late E.P. “Esco” Fender and Alma Phillips Fender.

Beverly graduated from Unicoi County High School. After she graduated from high school she began working as a secretary for R.O. Smith Law Office for several years. Beverly enjoyed volunteering at the Erwin Election Office where she helped with early voting.

Beverly was a devoted Christian woman who was an active member at Mt. O’Dale Freewill Baptist Church. She played the piano at church for fifty-six years. Beverly loved her church and her church family dearly.

She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who took exceptional care of her family. Beverly was an excellent cook. She enjoyed reading, shopping with her girls, and growing flowers. Beverly’s favorite pastime was sitting on her back porch while enjoying a good cup of coffee.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by an infant brother, Larry Fender.

Beverly leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, her loving and devoted husband of fifty-three years, Charles Miller; her daughter, Cynthia Shuford and husband, Jody, of Canton, NC; two grandchildren: Todd Shuford and wife, Gracie, Natalie Shuford and fiancé, Grady Glance; one great granddaughter who is on the way; brother, Ronal “Ron” Fender of Erwin; sister, Betty Surratt (Jim) of Rutherfordton, NC; Ethan Bailey, who was like a son to her and his wife, Hannah, and their children, Lane Bailey and baby Hallie who is on the way; her special nephew, Kenny Alston; several other nieces and nephews also survive.

The Miller family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the funeral home. Beverly’s funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with Reverend David Greene and Reverend Dwayne Riddle officiating. Music will be provided by Jody Shuford and Natalie Shuford. Beverly’s committal will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Cameron Bolden officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd Shuford, Grady Glance, Ethan Bailey, Jeffery Greene, Dennis Treadway, and Gene Roberts. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
