Bertha (Aguilera) Mendoza

Bertha Mendoza, age 56, of Erwin, passed away tragically due to flooding of the Nolichucky River from remnants of Hurricane Helene.

She was a native of Janamuato, Michoacan in Mexico, but had lived in Unicoi County since 1998. She is a daughter of Salvador and Margarita Aguilera Mendoza.

Bertha was a member of Centro Cristiano Siempre Gozosos in Johnson City, TN. She was an employee of Impact Plastics for several years. Bertha was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she knew. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Salvador and Margarita Aguilera Mendoza, Bertha is survived by her husband of thirty eight years, Elias I. Mendoza;  four children: Emanuel Ibarra (Nancy Flores-Hernandez), Guillermo I. Mendoza (Estrella Mendoza), Clarissa Flores (Emanuel Flores), Esteban Mendoza; four grandchildren: Ruben Ibarra-Flores, Gabriel A. Mendoza, Luna B.K. Mendoza, Elias L. Mendoza; special sister, Araceli Mendoza and her daughters, Natalia and Cynthia Mendoza; one brother and six other sisters. Several other aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.

The Mendoza family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Erwin from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024. Bertha’s funeral will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Miguel Pineda officiating. The family will attend a private committal service in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Era originaria de Janamuato, Michoacán en México, pero había vivido en el condado de Unicoi desde 1998. Es hija de Salvador y Margarita Aguilera Mendoza.

Bertha era miembro del Centro Cristiano Siempre Gozosos en Johnson City, Tennessee. Fue empleada de Impact Plastics durante varios años. Bertha era una esposa, madre, abuela y amiga muy amorosa con todo lo que conocía. Le gustaba pasar tiempo con su familia, especialmente con sus nietos.

Además de sus padres Salvador y Margarita Aguilera Mendoza, a Bertha le sobreviven su esposo de treinta y ocho años, Elías I. Mendoza;  cuatro hijos: Emanuel Ibarra (Nancy Flores-Hernández), Guillermo I. Mendoza (Estrella Mendoza), Clarissa Flores (Emanuel Flores), Esteban Mendoza; cuatro nietos: Rubén Ibarra-Flores, Gabriel A. Mendoza, Luna B.K. Mendoza, Elías L. Mendoza; hermana especial, Araceli Mendoza y sus hijas, Natalia y Cynthia Mendoza; un hermano y otras seis hermanas. Varias otras tías, tíos, sobrinas y sobrinos también sobreviven.

La familia Mendoza recibirá a sus amigos en la Primera Iglesia Bautista en Erwin desde las 4:00 p.m. hasta las 6:00 p.m. el lunes 7 de octubre de 2024. El funeral de Bertha seguirá a las 6:00 p.m. con el pastor Miguel Pineda oficiando. La familia asistirá a un servicio privado en el cementerio Evergreen en una fecha posterior.
