Bernard "Bernie" Lovell Obituary

In Loving Memory Of

Bernard “Bernie” Wentzel Lovell

March 6, 1934 – July 8, 2026

On July 8, 2026, Bernard “Bernie” Wentzel Lovell, age 92, of Flag Pond, peacefully went to sleep with his forefathers, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, wisdom, and love.

Bernie is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Arline Parzick Lovell, of Flag Pond; his eldest son, Bernard Scott Lovell of Connecticut; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Lale Lovell of Colorado; his younger brother, Robert Lovell of Massachusetts; and many dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him.

A devoted husband of thirty-one years, Bernie was known for his gentle spirit, deeply generous heart, and selfless nature. He spent his career as a professor of Computer and Electrical Engineering at the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts, and MIT, where he inspired countless students through his knowledge and passion for learning.

Bernie’s personal interest includes competitive shooting, motorcycles, opera, and classical music. His treasured collection of opera and classical music will continue to bless others through the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Above all, Bernie deeply loved his family and especially his beloved Arline. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, humility, compassion, and unwavering belief.

Bernie believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.

Bernie's graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Gordon Shell will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Bernie to: Unicoi County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 223, Erwin, TN 37650. They share a love for the forgotten animals.
