Alvis Freeman Shelton, age 66, of Flag Pond, passed away on Wednesday, January 01, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Newport News, Virginia to the late Burleson Hensley and Doris Shelton. Alvis lived most of his life in Shelton Laurel and Flag Pond.
He began working at Shelton Sawmill and Logging when he was 16 years old and remained employed there until he retired three years ago. Alvis was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, scouting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed watching the Hunting Channel on TV.
In addition to his parents, Alvis was preceded in death by one grandson, Johnathan Shelton; numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-four years, Sherry King; two children: Jason Shelton of Erwin and Kayla Shelton of Flag Pond; one special sister, Brenda Figgins of Erwin; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 09, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jimmy Dean Hensley will officiate the 12:30 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the King Family Cemetery, Shelton Laurel Community. Michael Shelton, Boney Shelton, Lynn Crumb, Jamie Shelton, Matthew Wilson, and Phillip Shelton will serve as pallbearers.
